Avant TaxWorks – Legit or Scam?

I came across a critical review of Avant TaxWorks on a Scam Reporting website – DirtyScam.com, titled ‘She Doesn't Offer Any Time To Meet’.

DirtyScam allows anonymous submission of complaints from angry consumers and victims of scams. Since the website is hosted offshore (probably in Russia or India), we take this (negative) review against Avant TaxWorks with a pinch of salt.

Here is what the review says –

We worked with Kristine last year because we wanted to make sure we got the maximum refund possible and thought it made more sense to do it with a real, live tax accountant than through an app.We found our experience with her was very similar to filing through an app except it ended up costing us much more.She doesn’t offer any time to meet in person or ask any questions to ensure you are getting the maximum refund.Instead, she just asks for your basic documents (W2, 1099s, etc) and plugs in the information and files it that way.This year we’re going with an app instead, which will be more than capable of doing the same thing and won’t cost hundreds of dollars.

It is difficult to ascertain whether Avant TaxWorks is a Scam, or Legit, based on this single review. In the coming weeks/days, I will try to research deeper into Avant TaxWorks, analyze and list more critical reviews and identify a pattern (or lack of) to substantiate the claim mentioned above.

Regardless, until then, we give the benefit of doubt to the reviewer and list Avant TaxWorks as someone you need to avoid (for now).
