Check City – Legit or Scam?

I came across a critical review of Check City on a Scam Reporting website – DirtyScam.com, titled ‘This place is just not very good at cashing checks’.

DirtyScam allows anonymous submission of complaints from angry consumers and victims of scams. Since the website is hosted offshore (probably in Russia or India), we take this (negative) review against Check City with a pinch of salt.

Here is what the review says –

I made the mistake of going Check City again…This place is just not very good at cashing checks for being a check cashing place.They still hand verify checks, like it’s 1995 and if you go there after 5pm they cannot verifyTherefore cash basic bank checks from wells fargo or citibank because the only way they have of knowing if your check is real or not is to call the issuing bank and ask them,Lol, so because those places are east coast and closed they can’t find out…too bad computers and the internet have not been invented yet.Once you’re frustrated by the lack of technology, the wasting of ten to fifteen minutes while they try to verify.Poor customer service sufficiently you can look forward to a passive aggressive and slightly condescending “have a good night” from friendly check city associates as you exit.Bottom line is you will not be getting your check cashed here after 5pm even if it is from a large corporate bank, which is the easiest type of check to cash.

It is difficult to ascertain whether Check City is a Scam, or Legit, based on this single review. In the coming weeks/days, I will try to research deeper into Check City, analyze and list more critical reviews and identify a pattern (or lack of) to substantiate the claim mentioned above.

Regardless, until then, we give the benefit of doubt to the reviewer and list Check City as someone you need to avoid (for now).
