Commonwealth Financial Systems – Legit or Scam?

I came across a critical review of Commonwealth Financial Systems on a Scam Reporting website – DirtyScam.com, titled ‘Commonwealth is fake and untrustworthy’.

DirtyScam allows anonymous submission of complaints from angry consumers and victims of scams. Since the website is hosted offshore (probably in Russia or India), we take this (negative) review against Commonwealth Financial Systems with a pinch of salt.

Here is what the review says –

I was contacted by Commonwealth Financial Systems few weeks back for a medical debt of $420. The debt was from the medical expense that was incurred after my ex-husband and my son met with an accident. As it was not my ex-husband’s fault, the insurance company had paid for their medical expenses. The divorce happened after this incident. I informed the same to the Commonwealth Financial Services and they stated that the debt was on my name and I will have to pay it at the earliest. So, I had to ensure that they were talking sense. For such reasons, I asked them for more information on the debt. I asked for details which can show that the alleged debt was on my name. However, its been few weeks and these guys have not sent me any such information. I have received no confirmation on the same. The question is: If this is my debt, why did not I receive any bill from them in so many years. It has been around 6 years and they made no attempts prior to contact me for this debt. They never ever tried to contact me earlier which means they did not even provide me 30 days to dispute the debt. This is against law and they have no right to spoil my credit score before providing me 30 days for investigating and disputing against the debt. Also, after they contacted me, I never said that I won’t be paying them. It was just that I wanted the information that would have cleared the reason and purpose of debt. Because, according to me, the debt that these guys were talking about was already paid in full 6 years back. How can they not approach me in these many years? I have not changed my address or phone number and nothing else. I am the same person living in the same house for all these years.Again, the Ohio Law says that the statute of limitation expires after 6 years. This means that they have broken another law. They cannot call me for a debt that has expired if not paid. All these things have taken a huge toll on my credit report. Being a single parent is not easy. And, these guys are making things even harder for me. Although it is none of their concern, they should be responsible enough to use their powers before harming others. However, this company only believes in harassing people and collecting debt. No matter if the other party is telling the truth. These guys have been calling me since then and asking me to pay the money which I do not owe.I have tried to contact my ex-husband to clarify things and he sent me the insurance letters and bills which shows that the bill was paid in full. I am not sure which medical bills they are talking about. I am not going to pay until they show me the proof.
