Dr. Alan Schlussel – Legit or Scam?

I came across a critical review of Dr. Alan Schlussel on a Scam Reporting website – DirtyScam.com, titled ‘Seemed a bit pushy when it came to buying eyewear directly from’.

DirtyScam allows anonymous submission of complaints from angry consumers and victims of scams. Since the website is hosted offshore (probably in Russia or India), we take this (negative) review against Dr. Alan Schlussel with a pinch of salt.

Here is what the review says –

Dr. Alan Schlussel seemed a bit pushy when it came to buying eye wear directly from him. I hadn’t even had a contact lens exam but received a bill in the mail for the service and also for a year’s worth of contacts. When I called to clear up the matter I was told that I had to pay the balance on the account (over $400) despite never receiving the service or the product ordered. When I tried to go to another location to use my glasses frame discount from my insurance, I was told that I already used it! I was shocked to find out that the doctor (or his employee) never rescinded the false claim that they made, now I’ve had to file for an investigation claim with my insurance company to recoup the discount that I’m entitled to because this doctors office stole it.Although I think Dr. Schlussel is a capable optometrist, but the agony you’re dragged through and the poor customer service you receive from his staff make this place not even worth the trouble as there are thousands of capable doctors whose staff are friendly and competent.I’m baffled as to how a doctor can “write a prescription for contact lenses without the patient ever having worn the non existent contact lenses to make sure they fit! This place is a joke and I will do everything in my power to get my money back even if it mean court for $100!.**UPDATE** My insurance company has been extremely cooperative, they have asked that the doctors billing agent re-file the claim as it was sent to them incorrectly initially with inflated costs and services and materials that I never received; This has yet to be done. The doctor’s receptionist and the doctor himself have refused to provide me with any additional assistance and have hung up on me numerous times when I’ve tried to explain the situation and the issues that I am having as a consumer that only wants to be able to get a new pair of glasses.
