I came across a critical review of The Power Company on a Scam Reporting website – DirtyScam.com, titled ‘The Power Company (TPC) is full of liars and they scam people for making money’.
DirtyScam allows anonymous submission of complaints from angry consumers and victims of scams. Since the website is hosted offshore (probably in Russia or India), we take this (negative) review against The Power Company with a pinch of salt.
Here is what the review says –
I run a small business and my firm is working fine. Recently, I got a call from a guy who said that he was calling from The Power Company. They have chosen a name that is so general that you may confuse it any of your local provider. I asked if he was calling from Com Edison. Without hesitating and taking the pain to clarify the confusion, he said yes, he was calling from the power company. What was that supposed to meant? He was in no intention of clearing my doubt. So, I thought that it was Com Edison for sure. However, when I tried to get the details of the company, he sounded fishy. I asked him his address and phone number. He told me that his name was Adam and he was calling from California. There was no more information provided from his end. It was obvious that he was trying to hide something. He had no caller identification as well. After this, I called Com Edison to verify the call and they completely denied about making any calls to my business. They also informed me that they had been getting similar complaints from many other customers. Other customers had the same issue and the other companies are also mentioning this scam now and then. This clears their motive of choosing such a name. They are a totally different company and has their website in the name of http://www.thepowercompany.com. However, if you will confuse them with any of your local provider, they wont dent it. That makes them the scam.Com Edison warned me about these issues and gave me a number to call the ICC. They also shared their number. I would not stay back and will definitely report these scammers. They must be calling other people to fool them and make money.I did my own research and found out many such charges against them. Few have reported that they hook up customers with other providers and sometimes do not provide complete information as well.If you wish to save your money, please try to verify the caller if you get a call saying that it is from The Power Company. They would try to hide their actual identity and would make you believe as if they are someone else, without even mentioning it by themselves. The Power Company is a scam and do not misunderstand them with any of your local provider. Otherwise, you will get yourself into lots of trouble that includes tax trouble as well.
